Situated in one of the two premier growing regions of cognac, “Petite Fine Champagne”, our 82 hectares of vineyards extend over a landscape with abundant limestone which regulates water and protects the vines from drought.
Our principal crop is Ugni Blanc, followed by Colombard.
The high limestone content on the hill of Fief Monte and the Bel’Air windmill ensures a limited production from the vines, but of superior quality.
As a member of the Independent Vintners association, we uphold this mark of quality as the authentic signature of a Charentais vintner who:
– Works their own vines respecting the land
– Produces and distills their wine on site
– Commercializes their own production with passion
Once alcoholic fermentation is completed, the white wine has to be distilled to make eau-de-vie.
We utilize the charentaise double distillation method in copper stills, a process which has not changed since the birth of Cognac.
A two stage process is performed to obtain an eau-de-vie at 70% alcohol of rich aroma and fine palate which will be then aged in oak casks.
Cognac is kept in our cellars and aged for many years in Oak casks. We follow a traditional and ancestral method that is near perfection.
Nothing is left to chance. Oak from the forests of the Limousin region has been selected for its strength, its low porosity and the properties it incorporates to the cognac.
The Bertrand family has inherited some very old and unique cognacs from generations past, distilled at the beginning of the 20th century, between 1903 and 1910.
